FROM THE EDITOR Keeping Fit

A

fter seven years of planning, the eyes of the world will be on London on 27th July 2012 for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. Inspired by the efforts of our Olympic athletes,

many more people will be heading outdoors and getting their exercise regime back on track, making now the perfect time to purchase new footwear. All the styles featured in Editor’s Choice: Sports Footwear on page 40. received top marks from our team at Footwear Today! Don't miss Retailer of the Month (page.22). This month it's the

turn of Ellie Dickins Shoes, Hungerford. Ellie has always had problems finding shoes to fit her very long narrow feet. She was a size 9AA at the age of 11. Not finding fashionable shoes to fit, especially as a teenager was tough. When Ellie grew up she opened a shop catering for ladies with larger feet, with sizes up to an English size 12, as well as offering width fittings from an AA to EE. Ellie buys shoes from small factories based in Europe, mainly Italy

We will feature you and your shop in Retailer of the Month, in

return for your help with our Best Sellers section (see Pages 20-21). We need to know your five best selling brands overall, for Men, Women and Children. Also, for Men's Comfort/Casuals, Men's Formal, Ladies Comfort/Casuals, Ladies: Fashion/Contemporary Shoes, Ladies Formal. For Children, it’s Pre-Walkers, Walkers and School Shoes. I look forward to hearing from you! Meanwhile, are you an experienced shoe fitter, but have not qualified as a member of The Society of Shoe Fitters? There has never been a better time to join, as you need every possible achievement to retain your customers and your staff in these tough times and with overwhelming competition. As you know, the SSF run their courses primarily for new

shops and those wanting to learn more, and they have also offered an Entrance Examination for experienced shoe fitters with more than 5 years experience to allow them to gain their membership qualification. Now, the SSF is offering an alternative form of entry - The Entrance

Application has been designed to specifically target shoe fitters based on their past experience and career history/CV as well as their day to day shoe fitting ethic. They are offering a special price of £50 per entry, if completed within 2012! What better time for employers to invest in their staff - particularly when it won’t cost them a fortune!

Best regards, Cheryl
