SUN RESORTS’ chic but playful fi ve-star Long Beach, which opened Spring 2011 on the island’s longest and widest stretch of beach in the northeast has created a buzz with its new ‘carefree piazza-style living’ concept. fi ve-star Trou aux Biches Resort & Spa fully opened after a two-year £60 million rebuild in November 2011 on one of Mauritius’ best sheltered sandy beaches, in the northwest. This tropical village- style all-suite and pool villa resort with thatched pavilions and hundreds of water features is simply stunning, and it has six delicious restaurants, a Clarins spa,
kids and teens club as well as a tennis academy. Banyan Tree’s sister brand, Angsana Hotels and Resorts, opened the fi ve-star boutique resort Angsana Balaclava in Turtle Bay, northwest Mauritius in December 2011. It has 51 suites – including Spa suites – and one Imperial Villa, most with private plunge pools, under Mauritian-style thatch with a fabulous Angsana Spa, two restaurants, two swimming pools and complimentary water sports. The long-awaited ultra-luxury
St. Regis Mauritius opening September 15 2012 in the
UNESCO World Heritage site of Le Morne in the southwest is Starwood’s fi rst St Regis in the Indian Ocean. Its blend of contemporary and colonial architecture houses 172 rooms and suites with generous terraces and the St. Regis Villa – the largest on the island – all with the St. Regis butler service. It also has six culinary experiences, an Iridium Spa, kids
club, wedding facilities and
a cinema. Fellow Starwood property the
Grand Mauritian on Le Morne peninsular on the south west coast, which was destroyed in a fi re, is currently being re-built and has a scheduled re-opening date of September 15 although bookings are not being taken at the moment.
