package costs from £510 in 2012 including the cake, bride’s hair and make-up and a celebration breakfast in bed, and its Luxury Wedding Package with all the trimmings starts from £1,095. In some resorts, like the Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort, the wedding is even free for guests and includes a wedding planner. Many hotels have special
wedding deals – brides stay free with a half board package at The Residence and the new St. Regis Mauritius resort [until December 2012] and friends and relatives get a 35% discount at Beachcomber hotels. Most couples choose to tie the knot on the hotel grounds – either on the beach, in the tropical gardens or in a special wedding chapel, pavilion or gazebo. As weddings in Mauritius have become more popular, so have the options and
range of venues. New options at Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort include a private candlelit dinner on the balcony of 19th century mansion Chateau de Bel Ombre, a private scenic boat trip and for fun, a transfer to the ceremony by Morris Minor. Ultra- private fi ve-star villa weddings are organised by
Villas de Maitre, which has added
three new venues in 2012, including Sankhara
private beach villas in Poste Lafayette with cake, couples massage and a romantic dinner included in a fi ve-night stay. Unusual options include saying ‘I
do’ on a private islet off the coast such as LUX* Resorts’ picture- perfect private island, Ile Des Deux Cocos, aboard a yacht or catamaran or below the sea in a submarine, an African or Indian- style cultural wedding or even marrying at a tourist attraction such as Casela Nature & Leisure Park, which offers weddings surrounded by birds and exotic animals. Religious options range from a ceremony in an 18th century village chapel, complete with Mauritian choir at Shanti Maurice to a service at St Louis Cathedral. Civil partnerships are not yet offered here. Honeymooners are offered
