18-year-old American record. With teammate Janay DeLoach winning silver, it marked the first time in World Indoor Championships history Team USA has won a pair of medals in the women’s long jump.
Lagat defended his World Indoor title in the 3,000m and etched his name next to Ethiopia’s Haile Gebreselassie as the only men to ever win three World Indoor titles in the event.
Teammates also while at the University of Florida, Claye joined Christian Taylor (silver) to become the first members of Team USA to finish 1-2 in the triple jump at the World Indoor Championships.
In the final event of the meet, the men’s 4x400m relay was capped off with a convincing win by Team USA in 3:03.94, for its fourth consecutive relay World Indoor title.
