2012 Olympic Games team processing includes both completion of team sign-up and the USOC Ambassador’s Program. These events are part of being an Olympian and must be completed as outlined below in order to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games. Team sign-up will be somewhat longer than usual because athletes will be sized for USATF competition gear as well as the USOC casual gear and the Opening Ceremonies uniforms. Athletes will also be asked to select and order their Olympic ring and visit the tailor for alterations. Athletes should plan on at least 2 hours for team sign-up. The Ambassador’s Program (which is mandatory) will take approximately 3.5 hours. Athletes should take these time allowances into consideration when making housing and travel plans. The USOC and USATF will cover the cost of a hotel room (two per room) for any athlete making the team that has to remain an additional night because they cannot depart for home because of the Ambassador’s Program. Athletes who expect to make the Olympic Team should book their housing to cover the additional night.
TIME GENDER EVENT TEAM SIGN-UP
The top four (4) finishers, who have achieved the Olympic qualifying standard (http://www.usatf.org/events/2012/Olympic Games/entry/qualifyingStandards.asp), in each event and the top eight (8) finishers in the 100m and 400m will be asked to complete Olympic Games team processing. Athletes who are to be nominated to the 2012 Olympic Team must declare their intent to represent the U.S. in London no later than the morning following the final of their individual event. Athletes whose finals are on July 1st must complete team processing on the day of their final individual event. Processing of athletes includes photographs, travel planning, uniform sizing and tailoring, Olympic ring ordering and team registration. One representative, selected by the athlete, may be present at the Olympic Team processing. Friends & family information will be available outside the entrance of team processing. Athlete must bring their passports with them to Team Processing.
