USATF STARS HELP CELEBRATE 100 DAYS UNTIL LONDON GAMES
Centered inside Times Square in downtown Manhattan, Olympic legends and Olympic hopefuls came together April 18 to celebrate the countdown from 100 days until the 2012 Olympic Games begin in London.
Tagged the “100 Days out Celebration” and hosted by the United States Olympic Committee, track and field Olympic hopefuls Allyson Felix, Jason Richardson, Chaunte Lowe, Jesse Williams and Bryan Clay joined Olympic legends Carl Lewis, Mal Whitfield, Alice Coachman and Dick Fosbury for a day of promotion for the London Games inside Times Square and around New York City.
Lowe, the American record holder in the high jump, and Williams, the reigning World Outdoor champion and Jesse Owens Award winner, were both a part of a high jump competition in Times Square. Each displayed their abilities in the event for Fosbury, who revolutionized the high jump in the 1960s. Coachman, who became the first African-American athlete to win an Olympic gold medal with her title in the event in 1948, and Whitfield who won three gold medals in the 800m and 4x400m, were honored as part of the opening ceremony commemorating the 1948 team.
Clay, the reigning Olympic decathlon gold medalist, and Richardson, the 2011 World Outdoor 110m hurdles champion, each made demonstrations on the Today Show.
