appropriate alignment. Note, however, that it is not simply the pressure that evokes positive change. Random pressure is what happens to you in a car accident! Knowing where, when and how to direct these tissues is key to achieving beneficial results. In fact, it could even be said that it is the Rolfer’s eyes, even more than his or her hands, that is responsible for evoking positive results.


How long do these changes last?


Years. In two independent studies led by Valerie Hunt, Ph.D. at UCLA and Julian Silverman, Ph.D. at Agnews State Hospital, researchers were able to measure changes brought about by Rolfing in test subjects five years after completion of the work. Simply put, once trauma is released from the body there is no reason for it to return.
