EuroSlot caught up with Spielo International recently to discuss their activities in the VLT sector

SPIELO INTERNATIONAL AND VLTs

How long have you been involved in the VLT sector and how has it progressed/changed during this time?

terminals, central systems and related software to regulated VLT environments around the world. Our game content is consistently among the top-ranked titles in every VLT market in which we operate. We see the industry undergoing three main

S

changes. First, the use of technology is evolving very rapidly. It’s enabled innovative game features that are more interactive and engaging than ever before. Second, back when the company was first

established, gaming was only about standing in front of a box. Today, it’s an experience you can have anytime, anywhere, on anything. Thanks to the advent of mobile technology, this evolution won’t stop anytime soon. Finally, the industry wasn’t as tightly regulated in

the beginning as it is today. There’s a much more serious and impactful set of boundaries that suppliers, operators and regulators must face every day. There’s a much greater emphasis on responsible gaming, too, so this needs more consideration than it used to get.

As more countries open to the idea of VLTs where does the most potential for new business lie?

as various jurisdictions grapple with debt and seek new ways to generate revenue to fund government services and programs without raising taxes.

Q& As you’re aware, Hungary and Greece have both

have passed VLT legislation within the last 12 months, but they haven’t finalized their regulations yet and/or started rolling out VLTs, so in terms of what their programs will look like once fully deployed, this remains to be seen.

How do you see VLTs continuing to provide the industry with new business opportunities, and how do you see the machine’s role developing over the next five years?

V

LT programs continue to be very attractive to governments that want to generate revenue

without taxation, and we expect this interest to continue, especially given the current global economic climate. VLTs often represent a large percentage of overall lottery revenues. There is also the “spin-off” benefit of VLT

programs, because they open up many opportunities for the gaming industry: such programs can engage cabinet manufacturers, game content providers, peripheral providers, retailers, and so on. So lotteries benefit, but it also opens up many new opportunities for additional businesses within the jurisdiction We also expect to see continued growth in the

online gaming space, and we’re now seeing traditional VLT program operators looking to enhance and extend their current land-based program to existing and new players using new media channels. As an example, some government- sponsored operators have recently done this in Canada. This is why we’ve intensified our focus on

creating great content across all gaming channels. We’ve recently integrated with GTECH G2, a full- service supplier to the iGaming and sports betting

industry. Recognizing the convergence of the land- based and online gaming industries, this integration will allow us to meet the needs of all our customers, across all channels, both now and in the future. GTECH G2 and SPIELO International are offering

a seamless online and offline technology solution to all customers, in the lottery and commercial gaming spheres. The move will enable us to offer all customers a greater number of dedicated resources, allowing the delivery of more content and better technology, combined with a faster time to market.
