News and New Partners 1,000 Yamaha amps for Finnkino
Cinema chain runs over 150 screens in Finland and Baltics
Manufacturer has supplied 80% of the chain’s screens
Finnkino, the biggest cinema chain in Finland, recently passed the milestone of installing its 1,000th Yamaha amplifier. Finnkino operates a total of 88 screens in 11 Finnish cities, plus 73 further screens under the Forum Cinemas banner in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The company has been installing Yamaha amplifiers in its cinemas for over a decade. High volume levels and critical
surround mixes mean that cinemas need to deliver the very best quality sound, which means that power amplifiers are among the most important components of a cinema audio system.
“The definition of the sound, high
signal-to-noise ratio and superior reliability is so good that that we have relied on them for over 10 years. We are a really happy customer!” adds Saarinen. All of the amplifiers are supplied by
“Our Finnish cinemas are 100% digital,” says Finnkino technical manager Ari ‘Jaska’ Saarinen. “The Yamaha power amplifiers fulfil digital cinema’s requirement for 24-bit, non- compressed audio and are manufactured to a very high standard.” 3D and digital cinema are greatly
increasing audience expectations, but Finnkino’s long-term use of Yamaha amplifiers indicates that those expectations continue to be met, if not surpassed.
AMX rolls out Enova training
CONTROL AND AUTOMATION
AMX has launched the Enova Solutions Certification course, to enable integrators to learn more about a product range that the company describes as having quickly become a mainstay of its portfolio. “By providing a reliable,
end-to-end analogue plus digital audio and video distribution solution while solving copy protection issues and centrally managing connected devices, the Enova range resolves many of the issues integrators face today,” said AMX European training manager Graeme Scott. The Enova
range combines control, multi-
format inputs, video switching, transcoding and scaling, local and remote distribution, plus audio mixing and amplification in a single box. The course gives delegates
the chance to learn about the product range in a hands-on environment. It is available at training centres across Europe, including the brand new government- accredited AMX University facility in Nanterre, France. AMX will soon open a new training centre at its showroom in Zevenaar in the Netherlands.

Just Lamps buys Sanyo stock PROJECTION
Following the withdrawal of the Sanyo brand by owner Panasonic, projector lamp distributor Just Lamps has announced that it has bought all remaining stocks of Sanyo lamps in the UK and US, to ensure continuity of supply for customers. “With the Sanyo brand about to disappear, there is massive uncertainty in the market place as to what will happen to lamps for legacy products,” commented Simon Kitson, Just Lamps’ European sales and marketing manager. “Resellers could be committed to servicing Sanyo models for several years to come, and we wanted to ensure that we could support them in meeting their
obligations to their
customers.” The distributor says that
the move represents a significant financial investment. “We’ve bought 6,000 lamps,” said Kitson, “but with the stock now sitting in our warehouse, we can deliver next day to most parts of the world.” For Sanyo models for
which lamps are unavailable, Just Lamps says its Diamond Lamps range can fill the gap with lamps of equal quality and performance.
