2012 edition of Prolight + Sound, rather than the adjacent (and larger) Musikmesse. On the showfloor, there were 876 exhibitors from 41 countries: Germany remained by far the best- represented nation, with 343 companies. China was next with 77 exhibitors (not including another 36 from Taiwan), the UK had 66 and the US was close behind with 59. Detlef Braun, member of the Executive
A
Board of Messe Frankfurt, commented that optimism in the sector was evident across the show: “[A] positive outlook and the enthusiasm for new products and the coming business year pervaded all exhibition halls. Thus, Prolight + Sound has further strengthened its position as a platform and source of new impulses for the sector.”
Audio One of the biggest talking points at this year’s show was undoubtedly the relaunch of our sister title PSNEurope. However, many other companies were also debuting new developments, with audio networking a prevalent theme. For instance, eight AudinateOEM partners announced a total of 13 Dante-enabled products at this year’s event – many of which are featured in this report. “What is truly amazing is the wide
range of different Dante products that were launched at the show,” said Lee Ellison, Audinate CEO. “It seems that no matter what you are looking for, there is now a Dante-enabled product on the market.”

networking front were the release of AVB-compliant products by several manufacturers, and the DiViNe video networking technology launched by Optocore offshoot BroaMan (see box, right). One of the largest launch events IE has seen on the Frankfurt showfloor was held by Yamaha. Twenty-five years after releasing its first digital console, the company announced the new CL series. The line-up comprises three consoles, the CL1, CL3 and CL5, founded on the Centralogic user interface first introduced in the M7CL. The series ranges from 48 to 72 mono
+ eight stereo inputs. Up to eight of the two new rack-mountable I/O units, the Rio3224-D and Rio1608-D, can be used in a variety of configurations, communicating via a scalable Dante digital audio network, while multiple CL series consoles can share control of the same I/O rack unit. Reportedly, the CL consoles are the first to feature built- in Dante networking as standard.

Optocore founder Marc Brunke (pictured) announced the launch of his nascent technology start-up in Frankfurt. Brunke has created Broadcast Manufactur (BroaMan), dedicated to developing its proprietary DiViNe (Digital Video Network) technology. DiViNe is designed to provide routing
and repeating, as well as transport and distribution of multiple professional SDI video signals over fibre-based infrastructures, preconfigured to customer requirement at the time of order. The system itself can be constructed
from a series of modules, which use DiViNe building blocks to create a multiple channel distribution system with or without routing. The devices consist of Route66, Route33, Repeat66, Repeat33 for flexible applications, and
Also in an anniversary celebration mood was DiGiCo: the company from which it was born, Soundtracs, was founded 40 years ago; the company made its first move into digital console development 20 years ago; and DiGiCo itself is 10 years old this year. A decade after the launch of the D5
Live, the company showcased its new incarnation, the SD5. The addition fits directly into the D5’s shoes, but benefits from the advances made possible by DiGiCo’s proprietary Stealth Digital Processing. The console sits between the SD7 and SD10. As standard, the SD5 comes with a
2GB fibre optic system, which is capable of running 448 channels of I/O

to audio and data network systems, like Optocore, SANE (Synchronous Audio Network plus Ethernet), MADI and Ethernet.

generation of wireless conference systems, Quinta. Three frequency bands – 2.4, 5.2, 5.8GHz – transmit wireless communication, and channels can be switched between either automatically or manually. The system is suitable for integration into existing or new building computer networks that comply with the IEEE 802.1 IT standard (AVB). Once configured, the numerous functions of the system can be
