Jordan Wolf

Duke’s sophomore attackman and Tewaaraton Award candidate lets us in on how he stays motivated and why he likes lacrosse just the way it is

Who in lacrosse is destined to be a reality TV star? I’d say Wiggy (Duke goalie Dan Wigrizer) or [defenseman] Henry Lobb. They are two pretty funny people — just out there sometimes, and I’ve known them for a while.

What’s one thing lacrosse really needs? You know, a lot of people talk about how they want lacrosse to change — how they want it to get bigger, or that the rules should change and add a shot clock to make it faster, that kind of stuff. I like lacrosse the way it is. I feel like you can play in college and still have a life, and I don’t know if that will change if it gets bigger.

Proudest moment of your career? Getting to the final four last year. I know we didn’t do all that well, but just getting there and playing in an NFL stadium was amazing. Just a year before, I was a high school kid playing on a regular field, and suddenly I was in front of 30,000 people in this beautiful stadium.

What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever had to do in practice?

Practice is pretty hard in general. It’s really fast-paced. You do a lot of things and you’re tired, so balancing it every day is tough.

What was the last thing you ate? Last thing I ate today was a Jimmy John’s sandwich.

What’s your major? History. It’s always been my favorite subject. I took a lot of U.S. history and government in high school. I like learning about the past of our country.

What’s been your favorite class at Duke? Crimes in Cities. It was based on the show “The Wire” in Baltimore. We got to watch a lot of “The Wire,” which was fun. The teacher was great, Ms. Thorne. A lot of lacrosse guys were in it, so it was a lot of fun.

What’s the last thing you read? I’m in a coaching theory class, and the last book was How to Network Yourself.

Overtime (from Becky Clipp, former Maryland/Team USA defender) If you could only go on one vacation for the rest of your life, where would you go? Margate Beach in Jersey. I go there every year with friends. I’ve never been to like an island resort. I figure if I went there once, I’d never want to leave.

Double Overtime (from Mary Dunnigan, Silver Spring, Md.): What do you do to motivate yourself on days when you really don’t feel like it? It’s just all about how much you love to play lacrosse. You really gotta love it to play at this high level. Coaches understand it’s a tough thing to do daily, but you just gotta dig deep and enjoy playing.

Pose a question for our next subject: What is the last song you listen to before a game?
