YOUR EDGE] players
Approach the crease on your dominant side.
The defender will take the fake, and you’ll create space on the inside in which to do a roll dodge.
Protect your stick. Keep your stick or your feet on the right side of the crease.
If you’re a lefty like Markwordt, wheel around the left side of the cage close to the goal line extended.
Take a step away from the cage and throw a fake in that direction as if you were going to pass the ball to a teammate closer to the sideline.
After the defender has committed to the fake, you have a moment where she’s off balance to make your move. Take a step back toward the crease with your inside foot. Plant that foot, and then seal off your defender.
As soon as you have a reasonable angle on the goal, throw a fake and then take a shot. Try to see the net — not the goalie — and put it around her body. This shot is about fi nesse, not power, so the fake is essential.
