This class includes all tulips originating from sports of one variety, Murillo, which was fi rst registered in 1860. Very few of the members in this distinguished fam-
ily tree have any trace of Murillo’s original pink color. However, all progeny have large, double blooms
which resemble peonies and stand erect on strong 8 to 12 inch stems, making them a smart choice for early spring beds and borders. All force well and have long-lasting blooms.

FOSTERIANA TULIPS

This class of tulips produces some of the largest fl owers of the genus, truly immense petals. Fantastic planted in large drifts and the perfect companions for daffodils. Among the best for peren- nializing. Often referred to as ‘Emperor’ tulips.

Highly fragrant buttercream blooms develop a blush of red on the petal edges as they age.

These tulips are desired for their eye-catching foliage which is mottled and streaked with maroon purple stripes. Flowers are large and richly colored. Their shorter stature makes them ideal for the front of the border and rock gardens as well as containers and forcing. All perennialize well.

A recognized class of tulips fi rst given their position in the Classifi ed Tulip List of 1935. They are chiefl y the result of hybridization between Single Early tulips and late fl owering varieties. As a result, the fl owers are substantial on a medium length stem. Excellent for beds and borders and considered some of the best for forcing.
