Toolstream Helping Merchants in the current climate
Editor’s visit to Toolstream I recently spent a most enjoyable day visiting Toolstream located in Yeovil in the beautiful county of Somerset. It is always a pleasure to visit this part of the country and I was pleased to be invited to Toolstream to view the new brands they were adding to their portfolio. Originally established in 1978, Toolstream is now based in a
new office and warehouse complex capable of carrying huge stocks enabling the company to supply next day delivery. In 2002 a warehouse was built extending to over 16.000 sq ft that now houses a fully automated, performance monitored picker and packer area. Powered conveyor lines feed parcels onto parcel carriers with a separate dedicated area for pallet order dispatching to larger customers. In 2006 a bulk warehouse of 32,000 sq
ft was added to handle the expanding product range and sales volume, followed by a second one in 2009 with a suspended DMI (i.e. perfectly flat) floor for wired guided forklifts. On my tour of the factory, the height of the storage facility in this warehouse was very impressive and I was informed that employees working in this area are required to have abseiling skills as a safety measure! This warehouse created an industry leading distribution centre supported by an IT network and affectedly doubled the companies bulk pallet spaces. Currently over 5000 products are available to be dispatched to 7000 stockists throughout Europe daily. Having toured these impressive facilities, I then attended a demonstration by
Emily Von Stein, Associate Product Manager of Elmers of Elmer Glues™and Krazy Glue™, new products recently added to the Toolstream portfolio. Elmer Glues are a trusted brand with over sixty years of continuous development of innovative new products. They provide outstanding performance for projects in the home, classroom, workshop and at the craft table. Krazy glue, introduced to the American market in 1973 is recognized as THE instant glue that bonds almost anything from plastic, wood and ceramics to rubber, glass and metal. Colourless and non-toxic, this super- strong adhesive bonds instantly without heat or chemical intervention, and is ideal for everyday household repairs. This was followed by an excellent demonstration of another new range, Bench Dog Tools. These tools, which offer uncompromising quality and value, combine
advanced engineering, high quality materials and careful craftsmanship. Designed and built by woodworkers for woodworkers and used by professionals and serious hobbyists this range provides some of the very finest woodworking tools and accessories available. Toolstream continues to strive to help Merchants in the current climate. Ever-
tightening margins and fierce competition mean merchants and retailers are constantly demanding more from their suppliers. Toolstream’s comprehensive range of over 5000 branded hand tools, power tools, fixings and adhesives combined with innovative web-based services and efficient distribution system, means customer support continues to go from strength to strength. As European distributor of Silverline, GMC, Triton, Bench Dog, Elmer’s, Krazy

synonymous with GMC. Triton tools are the industry’s
