“Allowing an exhibitor to break down earlyis a reallybad idea, in my opinion. Once one starts, it can start a wave across the hall.”

case, we have a 50-percent-of-the- cost-of-the-booth-space penalty for tearing down early. Second, remind exhibitors of this requirement during the event by including it in a booth drop during the event. You can also remind them of it over the PAsystem during those last few show hours if it becomes necessary. Third, if someone appears to be

doing more than just packing extra literature, remind them face-to-face of their contractual obligation to staff theirbooth. Some people may legitimately not have known it was not allowed. If they seem insistent on leaving, advise them that if they do they will suffer the financial penalty and a letter will be sent to the president of their company advising them of the contract breach. Additionally, tell your deco- rator/general contractor that no move-out services (return of emp- ties/labor) are to be provided before the hall closes, and no bills of lading are to be accepted at the service desk before 15 minutes after the close of the show. While some of these ideas may

seem strict and hard-nosed, they work. The bottom line is that if you are going to go to the effort to have a rule, you should be committed to enforcing it. Dennis Sharland,CEM Manager of Industry Relations and Expositions Air Force Association
