The “Green” Gem of the Northwest

SPACIOUS AND GRACIOUS (left): The Conference Center offers 71,000 square feet of meeting space in the heart of downtown Seattle. BIG CHANGES (below): “We have already completed substantial portions of the project with no impact to our clients,” said Ed Barnes, Washington State Con- vention Center’s Vice President of Operations, of the ongoing renovations due for completion in 2012. “The largest remaining portion of work will be scheduled during times when there are few if any events to have the least possible impact on them.”

(TCC). In addition to its eco-friendly design (the center is LEED–Silver certified) and commitment to sustainability, the TCC offers 71,000 square feet of flexible space, award-winning catering services, and a direct connection to the 343,722-square-foot WSCC. n

AT A GLANCE T 110

HROUGHOUT 2012 AND 2013,THE WASHINGTON State Convention Center (WSCC) will undergo a $20-million transformation that will not only give the facility a whole new look but add even more eco-conscious enhancements to what is already one of the greenest convention centers in the region. From new finishes to furnishings, new signage to lighting, the revamp will completely overhaul the look and feel of the WSCC. The cen-

ter’s staff will also take steps to ensure the renovation will make as small of an environmental impact as possible. Many of the new materials, including flooring and wall coverings,

will be made from recycled or toxin-free materials. Waste will be kept at a minimum — the center will recycle 95 percent of the old carpet- ing. Natural wood finishes, energy-efficient plumbing fixtures, and low-VOC paint will all be used to create an elegant yet eco-friendly new look for the WSCC. “We selected elegant colors and sustainable materials to create a

warm and inviting environment for our visitors that connects them to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest,” said Jeffrey A. Blosser, WSCC’s President and CEO. The renovation will also help provide a seamless transition to one of its newest meeting and event spaces, The Conference Center
