The Santa Fe’s class Rr-87 cars were 53′-4″ over the end sills and measured 14′-4″ to the eaves, 15′-0¹⁷/₃₂″ over the running boards.. Built in the railroad’s Topeka Shops in 1965, there were 395 cars in this group, numbers 50300-50694. They were equipped with Camel plug doors with a 9′-0″ wide door, Improved Dreadnaught ends and cushion draft gear,

Athearn has produced several mod- els painted for WFEX and BREX using their PFE models, and a model of a Fruit Growers 50-foot RBL type car


RAILROAD MODEL CRAFTSMAN

Athearn has also produced mechanical refrigerator mod- els painted for Fruit Growers Express, again using their PFE models. Santa Fe (using reporting marks SFRB, SFRC, SFRD, SFRE, or SFRP) had the second-largest mechanical refrigerator

car fleet in the United States, and no one has made accurate, mass-produced models of any of the SFRD “Mechani- cal Temperature Control”cars. Athearn sells a model of its PFE R70-11 painted and lettered for a Santa Fe Rr-63 me- chanical reefer (not a particularly close match) and their R70-20 painted and lettered for a Santa Fe Rr-91 mechani- cal reefer (better, but not accurate).
