E WOULD ALL LIKE TO BELIEVE that as we grow older, we also grow wiser. As a young publisher, I was following my passion, as I do today. Everything having to do with publishing was exciting, creative, fast-paced and ever-changing. It’s been my world for decades, and, when I was younger
and I was eating, drinking and sleeping publishing, I thought it was all there was in life. My attitude hasn’t changed all that much, but I have learned something very important: Success is defined not only by what you do and how well you do it but also through your children and their children. Today I’m in Florida celebrating my son’s graduation from Full Sail Univer- sity in Orlando. All three of my boys attended Whitesides Elementary School and Moultrie Middle School. As many parents in Mount Pleasant know, these are great schools. Anthony Macchio was in the first graduating class at the new Wando High School. Graduation at any grade level has a special meaning, but there is something extraordinary about graduating from col- lege. Anthony earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Arts & Design. Because of the quality of his work, Anthony was asked to give a speech at the graduation ceremony and a presentation the day before. He started his presentation by explaining how he developed a passion for his craft, attrib- uting his success to his mom’s obsession with interior design and his dad’s work ethic and passion for publishing. As Anthony spoke, I held back my emotions. I couldn’t help but think about one of my favorite sayings: Our kids don’t do what we say; they do what we do. Anthony’s presentation was outstanding. He finished by talking about one of
his own passions – a Twitter account called
www.Twitter.com/HotKeyoftheDay, which is a way for designers to learn about keyboard shortcuts. I’m sure many of our readers have experienced the celebration that sur-

rounds a college graduation and know how emotional this kind of family gathering can be. I’m glad y’all aren’t watching me write this; my eyes con- tinue to well up with pride and emotion. I have to thank Team Media Services. While I’m away enjoying Anthony’s gradu- ation, they are putting the final touches on the latest Mount Pleasant Magazine and hard at work producing Charleston’s Women’s Show, a Media Services event debuting March 3 and March 4 at the Omar Shrine Convention Center.
