lake is part of the Florida Trail and a magnet for hikers and cyclists. The 110-mile Florida trail circles Lake


Okeechobee as it passes through the South Central area. There are many access points along the way and, in parts, the trail is wild with fantastic vistas. On other stretches of the trail you can get up close to homes, farms, cattle and sugar cane harvesting. Herons and egrets are


common in the autumn and winter and fishing is a common activity. The bass are biting! If you want to stay

A cruise down the river is a good way of discovering the area, there’s a golf learning centre, hiking in Savannas Preserve State Park and if you are there in the spring, you can go to Tradition Field and watch the New York Mets baseball team training. As you would expect


along this coast, there are a variety of beautiful beaches suitable for surfing, snorkelling, fishing or just chilling out. Stuart is the sailfish capital of the world and it is worth a visit to the House of Refuge where shipwrecked mariners were taken in. The refurbished Elliott Museum holds many


fascinating aspects of local and national history and highlights include the rise in car technology.
