CAPE CANAVERAL & COCOA BEACH Visit Cape Canaveral and you’ll have immediate
lift-off into the story of NASA’s space programme. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
is superbly tuned in to every tourist’s curiosity, with images, videos and interactive features and experts to answer every question. You may even meet a real astronaut! This part of the Atlantic coast is full of things to
do and places to see. The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is 140,000 acres of coastal dunes, saltwater estuaries and marshes and is home to more than 1,500 species of plants and animals. Cocoa Beach is one of America’s top surfing
areas and home to the famous Ron Jon Surf School. A little less exerting is a gentle kayak eco- tour through Thousand Islands, where the most exotic wildlife in the state is waiting to greet you.
CLEARWATER Way over on the Gulf of Mexico coast is Clearwater where the white sands are recognised as among Florida’s finest family beaches. Water sports are high on the agenda here
and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is home to film star Winter the dolphin, who lost her tail. Other local attractions include historic buildings,
arts and museums. If that’s a little bit dry for the kids, they’ll love the nightly entertainers on Pier 60 and you’ll love the shops, restaurants and magnificent sunset.
