chartering a yacht or boat is simple. Fort Lauderdale on the east coast is regarded by many as the ‘yachting capital of the world’ and is home to every type of vessel from luxury yachts to sailboats. And if you’ve got sealegs,
you can even join the crew of a yacht as a deckhound. Most resorts have group sailing trips or you can hire a boat and go off on your own as long as you know one end of it from the other!
Cocoa Beach is a must-visit for surfing
fans with its buzzing community. You can rent boards to ride the Atlantic waves and take lessons. Sebastian Inlet and Playalinda Beach are surfspots too. Back on dry land, you will find many biking
trails. For on-road, try the 46-mile Withlacoochee State trail and off-road, Miami’s Oleta River State Park. Hiking trails are plentiful. A day trip could take in Sanibel Island and Key Biscayne, or for a longer ramble head to the Apalachicola National Forest in northwest Florida, for the challenging but beautiful 30-mile (48km) trail. Pack those trainers, you will need them in Florida!
