SERVICES SPOTLIGHT This month: Nimrod

Nimrod is an audio company that has been providing music compositions and productions to the industry since it was formed by Marc Canham and Rich Aitken in 2001. Now offering its services to studios

around the world, Nimrod has provided scores for industry giants including Nintendo, EA, and Ubisoft. “Nimrod has grown very organically

over the last 12 years and we’ve introduced new services at very logical points in our growth,” says production director Rich Aitken.

“Being one of the only truly ‘one-

stop-shop’ audio companies gives us great flexibility, from our world-class NSO orchestral team, production crew and composers, a growing voice-over studio, Nimrod Music Supervision and now our DLC Studio.” The new DLC Studio has been

designed to help developers working to tight deadlines and lesser budgets when producing downloadable content for games and smaller iOS projects. “We’ve set out to tailor our services including production, composition, mixing, voice-over and music licensing to fit neatly in to these more compact

development schedules at a fraction of the cost,” explains Aitken. “This ensures you get all the quality

you would expect from Nimrod, but within the budgets available for these great projects.” Aitken says that music has become an essential part of the gaming experience as the industry has progressed over the last ten years, with the sector making ever larger budgets available to musical scores.

well utilised music is essential for any visual entertainment and art form – the real skill is knowing when to use it as your silences can be more effective than the music-led moments.” Having begun to also progress into the film industry – a sign of how the games industry and its services are edging closer in quality – Aitken says that as well as launching DLC Studio, the company is also planning to open

a new studio and mixing facilities as it looks to expand. “In the last few years Nimrod has begun expanding in to film which has been very exciting, and this recognition that a company that began life in video games can cut it in the film word has been very rewarding,” says Aitken. “On top of this the studio is ever expanding, and plans to have a Dolby accredited mixing facility and a London based satellite studio accompanying the Oxfordshire HQ are firmly afoot.”
