The image on top shows a magnetic byte imaged 5 times in different magnetic states to store the ASCII code for each letter of the word THINK, a corporate mantra used by IBM since 1914. The team achieved this using 96 iron atoms − one bit was stored by 12 atoms and there are eight bits in each byte. © IBM
llumina (NASDAQ: ILMN) introduced the HiSeq® 2500, a next-generation sequencing system that
will enable researchers and clinicians to sequence an entire genome in approximately 24 hours, Genome in a Day. The HiSeq 2500 leverages the continued technology advancements from both the HiSeq 2000 and MiSeq“ platforms.
Furthermore, Illumina announced that the British Columbia Cancer Agency‘s (BCCA) Genome Sci- ence Center has joined the Illumina Genome Net- work (IGN). IGN is designed to link researchers nee- ding large-scale whole human genome sequencing with leading institutions that provide this application as a service using industry-leading Illumina sequenci- ng platforms.
