What’s your story? As a new Family Matters feature, we’re highlighting the Sheetz job experiences of our


employees. How did they come to work for us? What part of their job has changed over the years? Who’s inspired them the most? What makes Sheetz a unique employer? To kick off our series, we’re profiling Dan McMahon, our Executive Vice President of Operations who is retiring in January after a more than 30-year career with Sheetz.


Dan McMahon Executive Vice President of Operations


In 1977, Dan was looking for a job to support his young family and landed at Sheetz as a salesperson. He worked all shifts for a few years before receiving the first of several promotions. He managed not one, but two stores at once, Store #113 in Sidman, PA, and #37 in Gallitzin, PA, before moving on to District Manager (DM). By the time Stan Sheetz left his post as Executive Vice President (EVP) of Operations 16 years ago to become President of the company, Dan had distinguished himself enough in his job as DM to be considered for that vacancy as well. He was for many years the only non-Sheetz family member on the Executive Committee. As EVP of Operations since 1995, Dan has guided the company through many operational changes. The


biggest of those challenges has been redefining ourselves as a food destination rather than a traditional conve- nience operator, especially in new markets that are further and further away from our home base of Altoona, PA. He also put significant focus on the cultivation of positive working environments in our stores. Dan’s promotions through the ranks at Sheetz, from rookie to EVP, prove that it’s possible to build a great


career at Sheetz. Our steady growth and expansion will continue to create opportunities for advancement for those employees who are excelling in their current positions.


Customer Appreciation


These five ladies from Store #57, Somerset, PA, were taken by surprise when they received a gift of one dozen pink roses. The flowers were a token of appreciation from a customer who receives good service from their store daily. The employees are: (back) Jeanie McClintock, Manager Connie Slicker- man and Emily Troy; (front) Janie Fieg and Bonnie Reedy.


Coupon Clipper


Candi Landfried is a four-year employee at Store #139, Greenville, PA. She and a friend started a coupon clipping campaign in Hempfield Township, PA, and were featured in their local newspaper. Candi says, “My greatest haul was a $1,286 order that I brought home for just $52.41.” The two now teach a coupon clipping class


I’d like to give a huge “whale done” to my employees for working so hard. The store has been absolutely crazy, but we stuck together and made it through with some great numbers. Go, Big Blue!


regularly at the New Beginning’s Christian Church in Greenville, where they help others learn how to get a good bargain. They ask all attendees to bring a food item or other donation with them that is given to a local organization in need. They also collect expired coupons and send them to troops overseas who can use them.


“Times are rough,” Candi said. “If you have the ability to help others, you just should.”


Proud Mom, Bev Elder, of our Payroll department, shared this photo of her son Keenan and his friend, Leah Klevan. Both are members of the Penn State University Blue Band. Leah is also a salesperson at Store #7, Altoona, PA.
