KNIT ONE, PEARL

ONE, BLIPP ONE Shreddies’ ‘Knitting Nanas’ deliver messages straight from the cereal packet thanks to interactive 3D images

Cereal brand Nestle Shreddies has teamed up with blippar, the free image recognition app for smartphones, to make its ‘Knitting Nanas’ come to life and offer their pearls of wisdom straight from three million cereal packs. Breakfast lovers are encouraged to get involved by holding their smartphone over the cereal box and, using the free app from blippar, see Nana Pearl from the marketing campaign appear in 3D.

Since launching in 2007 the Shreddies nanas have become a phenomenon, with nearly 300,000 Facebook fans following their every knit. “Blippar’s technology helps make packaging fun and

interactive really for the fi rst time, bringing focus back to the packs at breakfast. With this ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ campaign, we’re giving people a light-hearted start to the beginning of their day,” said Shreddies marketing manager, Craig Turner. Over three million packs of Nestle Original Shreddies

carried the blippar activity, where the fi rst packs appeared on shelves for the Christmas period. www.blippar.com

MOBILEMERCHANT TARGETS SMALL

BUSINESSES Elavon introduces new mobile application that turns smartphone into Chip and PIN payment device

Payments provider Elavon has introduced Elavon MobileMerchant, designed to be an affordable payment app that transforms mobile devices into terminals, allowing small businesses to accept payments quickly and securely anywhere, anytime.

The merchant downloads the app onto their existing

smartphone and a Bluetooth-connected Chip and PIN device securely captures and encrypts card data, ensuring that no information is stored in the smartphone. Receipts are sent to the customer via email or text message. The provider said the app meets all the current UK banking requirements, so as to protect both cardholders and merchants from fraud, abuse and chargebacks. The solution is currently running as part of a pilot programme in the UK that is currently operating on Blackberry and Android smartphones and tablets, with full production availability scheduled for March. www.elavon.com

NEXEON WINS DOUBLE RECOGNITION Oxfordshire ‘cleantech’ company win recognition for rechargeable batteries’ contribution to clean energy

Nexeon has been given two major accolades at this year’s Rushlight Awards, the only awards for clean technology developers, including the overall Clean Energy Award.
