RECRUITMENT SOLUTION SECURES TEMP CONTRACT
Omega Resource Group recently reported it that it had scooped a prestigious multimillion-pound managed service contract for a global online retailer, to provide a share of up to 4,000 temporary workers at its Swansea fulfi lment centre. While it did not name the retailer, the
provider said that it continues to hold the top position as the UK’s biggest online retailer in the annual IMRG Experian Hitwise Hot Shops List. Amazon has been the only retailer to hold this top position in the fi ve years the trade body has collaborated with data provider Experian to produce a merchant performance indicator of the top UK retailers. Omega pitched for the business in
South Wales, against incumbent agencies. According to Ray Pugh, Omega Resource
RETAIL TECHNOLOGY JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012
Group director: “We were able to demonstrate not just an understanding of the issues but an innovative method of solving problems in a cost effective way. This location in Swansea especially presented a number of issues to create a complex project.”
The recruitment service supplier researched the local recruitment market and produced a detailed analysis and plan, which incorporated funding of public transport to allow employees to travel to work free. Omega’s team then devised a range
of strategies, which needed to take into account the fact that the Swansea centre, unlike others operated by the client, with its more complex with stock-in and stock- out both accommodated in the fulfi lment
centre’s 800,000-square-foot storage space. Neil Jackson, Omega’s contract manager,
added: “While the fact that a large employer is sited in an unemployment black spot must be good news for many prospective employees, our task is to ensure that the appropriate and relevant people are not only hired, but are able to travel to work in an area not especially well served by public transport.” The employment catchment area extends up to a 15-mile circumference outside of Swansea with staff attracted from many localities in South Wales. Omega provides bespoke resource
services throughout the UK, including permanent and temporary positions in executive, management and unskilled positions for engineering, technical, industrial and commercial industries.
