STRAP
FROM THE EDITOR Footwear Industry Awards
I
’m pleased and excited to report that Footwear Today Magazine has received a fantastic response from the trade to the Annual Footwear Industry Awards. Our loyal readers have played an active part, nominating and voting for those they believe are the most deserving, so that only the best win these awards. Organised by Datateam Business Media for the industry, with the
support of BFA, IFRA and the Society of Shoe Fitters, the Footwear Industry Awards event promises to be an enthralling evening, held on the first night of the Moda show, at a luxury four star venue, the 4-star Forest of Arden Hotel, only 4 miles from Birmingham NEC. Special hotel rates apply for those attending the Awards on February
19th 2012. Prices start at £100 for a single room, £110 for a two-person room, including breakfast. Tickets for the event, including a complimentary champagne reception and a three-course meal with wine, are available at £90 per person; £900 for a table of 10. Read more about the awards at:
www.footwearindustryawards.com/ I hope you will be able to join us and look forward to welcoming you to
the event. The dress code for the evening is ‘lounge suit’, which was intended to help provide a seamless transition for those exhibitors attending the Moda cocktail party immediately after the show, followed by the Awards Event. But, it’s purely a matter of personal choice, many of us will be favouring formal dress, I’ll be wearing my tiara, of course…only kidding!! Once again, a big thank you to all the independent footwear retailers
on our Best Sellers panel who kindly notified us of their star performers in December 2011. The top selling brands are revealed in our new Best Sellers section on page 18. of this issue! We are now working on the March edition, and asking retailers to let us
have their top five selling brands in January, by the second week of February please. If you would like to take part, please let us know and we’ll add you to our list. You can read more about Best Sellers and how to participate on the Home Page of the Footwear Today website
www.footweartoday.co.uk In return for your participation in Best Sellers, we are offering to
feature you and your shop in our new Retailer of the Month page. The independent footwear retailer featured in this month’s edition is Bernard O’Brien of Luke O’Brien Shoes To Be Shoer, Tuam, Co. Galway. Bernard is a passionate shoe-man and is a former President of the Society of Shoe Fitters. Read more about Bernard and his shop on page 20. Don’t miss our Fashion Trends section on pages 28-29. This month we
talk to Jaana Jätyri, founder of fashion trend forecasting agency
Trendstop.com, and publisher of Trendstop Fashion TrendTracker App. Your chance to find out about the dominant styles/shapes and colours coming in for A/W 12/13, with advice for retailers on how they can use next seasons’ trends to entice consumers to buy. In this edition, we also consider the Unstoppable Rise Of Women’s Shoe Sizes in Foot Health on page 26. and report on changes afoot for those ladies who struggle to get their size 9’s into anything other than men’s footwear. It’s the show season this month, with PURE at London Olympia
(Feb 12-14), closely followed by MODA. We bring you previews of the major footwear shows, including Moda and GDS, Dusseldorf. Meanwhile, the team at Footwear Today will look forward to seeing you at the MODA show at the NEC Birmingham from 19-21 February, look out for Stand U26. I’ll be waiting to meet and greet our readers on the opening day - so do come along and introduce yourself and tell me what you’d like to read about in Footwear Today in 2012!
