Hannah McKeand is the world’s most experienced polar explorer. She gave up her successful career in marketing to pursue her exploration ambitions, joining a team skiing to the South Pole in 2004. Despite having no previous skiing experience she completed the journey in 56 days.

Just two years later Hannah would repeat the journey solo and unaided. Completing her expedition in just 39 days, 9 hours and 33 minutes, Hannah broke the world speed record (beating both men and women) for the fastest solo, unsupported journey to the South Pole.

She is now a highly respected Polar Guide and has travelled more miles in Antarctica than anyone else in the world. “On Antarctica, the environment can be really ferocious but the main challenge is its vastness, its monotony and its relentlessly aggressive weather,’ says Hannah in a recent interview in the New York Times. ‘Travelling through it is almost like a meditation exercise, trying to stay permanently in tune with it, calm and in control.
