Ethnic Ensemble Grant Available

To encourage Wisconsin band programs to perform and promote music of the polka genre (ethnic music) the Wisconsin Orchestra Leaders Association has created a grant whereby schools can apply and have purchased for them two (2) band arrangements from event 9218-Mostly Winds Ethnic, Folk, Heritage Ensemble of the 2011-12 WSMA Festival Music List. The grant is specifi- cally targeting start-up projects but existing projects are welcome. The current list was created and edited by retired band director Ernest Broeniman of Hortonville, Wisconsin.

The event was approved for performance at district and state music festivals in the mid 1980s to give students the opportunity to perform the music of their ethnic heritage.

Those directors wishing to apply to receive arrangements must supply the following information for review and selection by February 25, 2012:

1. Name of school and location in Wisconsin. 2. Name of director.

3. Number of students in ethnic ensemble (proposed or existing).

4. If the program exists, a brief description on how long the program has existed with basic details on rehearsals and performances in your school and or school district.

5. If the program is new, basic information on how it will be used in your school and or school district.

This information should be mailed or emailed to: Ernest Broeniman 351 N. Cherry St. #9 Hortonville, WI 54944
