THE greatest movie ever sold

Sheetz Buys In

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock asked Sheetz to be a sponsor and featured brand in his movie about sponsorship, product placement, marketing and advertising in movies and television. Our own Manager of Public Relations and Community Support Monica Jones

attended the movie premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where Spurlock’s “Super Size Me” won the Grand Jury Prize in 2004. Sheetz is featured in some memorable and humorous scenes in his newest film The

Greatest Movie Ever Sold. “The movie was a huge hit with the audience at Sundance,” Monica said. “They

loved Stan (who had a cameo in the film) and they loved the interviews with Sheetz customers.” Spurlock’s crews filmed at our corporate offices and in our stores, with about

seven Sheetz-related scenes making it into the movie. Although part of the deal was allowing Spurlock complete creative control of his

film, his personality and sense of humor helped us overcome any fears we had about signing up as sponsors. “We loved the approach that Spurlock takes in the film,” said

Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Louie Sheetz. “He cleverly jabs at the world of product placement and being in on the joke is exactly where we wanted to be. Sheetz has a well-known reputation for being real and unexpected. Morgan takes that same approach with his films. The chance to team up with him for this type of movie is a great way for our fans to enjoy Sheetz in an entirely different arena than they are used to.” “Morgan’s got a wit that plays well with the topic

and the people involved in the film,” Monica said. “He got lots of laughs from the audience. It was a great fit for us.” Spurlock, who grew up in West Virginia, was

a Sheetz fan before the movie and seems to have enjoyed his experience filming with us.

2 Family Matters APRIL “I have long been a fan of Sheetz,”

Spurlock said. “Everywhere we filmed, their employees had an incredible attitude and went all out to make their part the best it could be.” Other brands featured in the

film are POM Wonderful, JetBlue Airways, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Merrell Shoes, Amy’s Kitchen, THAYERS Natural Remedies, Seventh Generation, Mane N’ Tail and Ban Deodorant. “The Mane N’ Tail sponsors are from Lehigh and love Sheetz,” Monica said.

“They go to Store #384 in Bethlehem all the time and referred to it as ‘my Sheetz.’” “The president of Pom Wonderful loves our stores. He says we have a great model.

So even as the only regional brand, we were a good fit.” At the premiere after-party, attendees received goodie bags that included Sheetz coffee, thermoses, t-shirts and umbrellas. Reviews of the film have been very good so far with more than 900 million media impres- sions, and critics agree that the participating brands are portrayed in a flattering light. “Sony Classic Pictures has picked up the rights for distribution with the film showing in dozens of our markets, near hundreds of our stores,” Monica said.

“It’s very exciting!” The movie is scheduled to open in theaters

this month. At this time, we’ll move forward with

promotions, in-store marketing and movie premiere events.
