employee news
My son, Justin Volpe, has worked at Store #314, New Alexandria, PA, for three years. One evening, a family came into the store to tell him they found a dog and they didn’t know what to do with it. The owner of two dogs himself, Justin promptly called us on the phone to see if we could take the dog home until the owner could be found. We agreed, and since Justin was still working, we took the dog home. We called the number on the dog’s collar and left a message explaining the pre-
dicament. Within minutes, we received a call back from a veterinarian who said the dog’s name was Biz and he was from Colorado, but we were unable to make contact with the dog’s owner in Colorado. Justin went to Action for Animals first thing in the morning, and a volunteer
cross-referenced the dog license number using her computer program to find the current owner’s name and phone number. She made contact with Biz’s owner in New Alexandria. We made arrangements to take Biz back to his owner at the very same parking lot where we had picked him up less than 24 hours earlier. The owner seemed to find it humorous as we described how Biz had eagerly
eaten the two hot dogs the day before. He explained that he purchases Sheetz hot dogs for Biz on many occasions and that Biz seems to really enjoy eating them. Sheetz should be proud of the type of employees that they have working in New
Alexandria. I know, that as parents, we could not be more proud of our son. — Chris & Joe Volpe
In Memory Nice Catch!
On opening day of trout season, I landed this 19-inch, two pound, Palemino Trout in Woodcock, PA. I’ve been mentioned in the local newspaper three times. This picture is from the Meadville Tribune. — Clayton Milstead, Store #337, Meadville, PA
We have lost a member of our Sheetz family from Store #228, Halifax, PA. Amber Solomon, assistant manager at the store, was in a fatal car accident in May. She had an amazing smile and kindness for everyone that knew her. Amber was full of ideas, a team player with a great work ethic, and she showed exemplary support of Sheetz Family Charities. She was smart, outgoing, funny, nice, driven and motivated. Amber was a stunning beauty with an
infectious smile. We have all been sharing some tears and laughter about her. We are in shock and miss her dearly. Please keep Amber’s family in your prayers as they go through this difficult time. —Michele Hughes, District Manager, District #33, Reading/Harrisburg, PA

14 Family Matters AUGUST
On June 11, 2010, Travis Carty lost his life in a tragic accident. He was a great friend and employee. Travis was a very caring person who was friends with everyone and never had a bad day. He would always find some way or somehow to make things livelier around the store. He touched all the lives he came in contact with, especially all of us here at Store #358 in Radford, Virginia. Travis and his attitude, demeanor and caring way will never be replaced. Travis you will be greatly missed.
Deepest Sympathy All of our love, Your family at Store #358
