In celebration of vocational qualifi cations, this year’s VQ Day brought together MPs, employers and learners from across the UK

Now in its fourth year, VQ Day 2011 saw Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong


Learning John Hayes joined at Westminster Kingsway College by educationalists, employers and MPs, including David Blunkett. The event also saw former Education Secretary and Chairman of Edge Lord Kenneth Baker recognise this year’s regional VQ Learner of the Year award winners. Highlights of the event included


performances from the Gable Hall School choir, and a barbershop quartet from Blackpool Sixth Form College, while a roundtable discussion considered the business benefi ts of vocational qualifi cations. Exhibits came courtesy of Skills to


Shine and WorldSkills London 2011, who hosted an interactive Have a Go zone, allowing guests to try their hand at painting, fl oristry and stonemasonry.
