NORFOLK BROADS

Countryside & the I

t may be one of the driest places in Britain, but there’s an awful lot of water to be found and enjoyed in the borough of Great Yarmouth. This includes splashing about in the North Sea, angling in the rivers Thurne, Bure, Yare and Waveney, and bird-watching, boating and fishing at Fritton Decoy or on the unique Trinity Broads.

The watery landscape of the world famous Norfolk Broads was shaped by our ancient ancestors over thousands of years. Today, we can explore miles of slow winding rivers, waterways and lakes that form some of East Anglia’s most stunning countryside. It’s the perfect

place in which to admire Norfolk’s big open skies, or to go bird-watching, walking, sailing and canoeing.

A boat is one of the most relaxing ways to discover the Broads, and with picturesque villages and waterside inns for lunch, exploring has never been so much fun. Hire a day boat at St. Olaves to the south on the River Waveney or at Martham to the north-west on the River Thurne. Rowing boats are available to hire at Rollesby, Ormesby and at Fritton. A special wheelyboat for wheelchair users is available to hire at Ormesby, Rollesby and Fritton.
