Arcolectric partners with BioCote to develop range of antimicrobial switches

Elektron Technology, the owner of the Arcolectric brand, has signed a partnership agreement with BioCote to develop what are believed to be the world’s first antimicrobial equipment switches. BioCote’s silver ion technology will be incorporated into Arcolectric’s switch products at the time of manufacture to provide proven, built- in antimicrobial protection against a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, mould, and viruses for the expected lifetime of the product. Arcolectric will initially focus on incorporating the technology into five of its most popular switches and switch covers, with the potential to expand usage across its full product range and other Elektron Technology plc branded products going forward.

The BioCote antimicrobial protection reduces levels of microbes on surfaces by up to 99.99%. Arcolectric’s switches are already sold into a wide range of industries including healthcare, laboratory science, education, catering, leisure and other ‘high traffic’ public places. “Component parts, such as a switch, are often the first contact point for a user when they interact with a product,” comments Stuart Hutchings, Marketing Manager, Arcolectric. “More and more of our component parts are now being used for ‘high traffic’ applications

1.27mm pin headers from Harwin

Harwin, the hi-rel connector and SMT board hardware manufacturer, has announced that its M52 2.54 x 1.27mm pin header range - part of its Archer board to board connector system - is now available ex-stock, rather than being produced to order based on a customer's selected pin height. The device is available in through-board and SMT styles, and many standard pin lengths can now be shipped immediately, increasing design flexibility. Versatile and cost effective this connector

system offers good performance and is intermateable with other similar systems. It is suited to applications including test & measurement, robotics, industrial, handheld and medical equipment. SMT versions are available

Honeywell launches watertight miniature switches

Honeywell’s MICRO SWITCH Basic Switch line has been expanded with the addition of the V15W Series of Watertight Miniature Switches. With an IP67 waterproof seal rating and as the only V-switch in the industry rated up to 10 amps, the switch can be used in a wide range of high-current consumer and industrial applications where spillage or water could be a factor. Potential applications include off-road vehicles such as ATVs, golf carts, lawn mowers, and snowmobiles; construction and agricultural machinery; industrial equipment such as factory floor wash-down machinery; and medical equipment such as hospital beds, dental chairs and foot pedals. “Watertight basic switches work well because

they are space-efficient miniature switches with excellent protection against water and dust,” said Dan Herzog, Honeywell Sensing and Control’s product marketing manager for Basic Switches. “The size and construction of these switches makes them suitable for many applications because they can be adapted to various shapes, geometries and configurations.”

The watertight V15W basic switches are fully configurable and include a wide variety of actuators, terminals, and electrical and operating characteristics. They offer repeatable, reliable and consistent performance within a broad range of conditions, meeting UL and other agency requirements. Able to operate in a variety of difficult environments, the watertight switches are available in three options for protection: sealed plunger, dust-tight (with epoxy seal on terminals) and pre-leaded.

where bacteria management becomes an issue. BioCote’s innovative technology helps us to overcome this issue, and offer our customers a new advance in switches.” Arcolectric has undergone a rigorous R&D and testing process. All BioCote protected products are regularly validated and quality control tested to ISO 22196 where applicable, in an independent laboratory. Only products that demonstrate over a 95% reduction in bacteria are allowed to use the BioCote brand as a guarantee of superior antimicrobial performance.
