NASC YEARBOOK 2012 | CONTRACTS

MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD
The Contracts Committee is now represented on the Contractors Legal Group ensuring the scaffold industry’s interests are taken into account, reports Andy Thomas
the nasc contracts committee is the forum for the discussion of contractual issues faced by the membership. Its representatives are drawn principally from the London and South East region. In addition to reviewing existing guidance the committee is also engaged in drafting new guidance to assist the membership with contractual concerns. In recent years the remit of the committee has expanded to include discussion of tax-
related matters, with key input provided by Liz Bridge of the Joint Taxation Committee (JTC). In turn the committee provides representation to JTC meetings to ensure the scaffolding sector is properly represented. JTC bulletins are issued regularly and posted on the members’ area of the NASC website.

representation to the Contractors Legal Group (CLG). This group meets regularly to discuss contractual issues faced by the wider construction sector. NASC contribution is again critical to ensure the interests of the specialist subcontractor are properly represented. Through its involvement the committee has recently provided input to a review of the Scaffolding Form of Contract formerly published by the Construction Confederation. Contractual advice on scaffolding-related matters is available to the membership from John Bradley of Reynolds Colman Bradley. Details may be found on the members’ area of the NASC website. The committee would be pleased to
hear from member representatives with a contractual interest who might wish to consider joining, particularly those from outside London and the South East.
