NEW CODE GOES LIVE
The NASC code of practice proves membership gives suppliers a competitive edge, writes Robin James
during 2011 the nasc hire, sales, and manufacturing committee has met regularly to discuss and review the NASC Code of Practice audit. The audit procedure was originally designed for the hire, sale and use of system scaffolds, but has recently been expanded to incorporate tube, fitting and timber board. Beams and roofing systems are in the pipeline for inclusion in due course. It is pleasing to report that the development of the NASC Code of Practice audit has stimulated a renewed level of interest in membership from supplier companies currently outside NASC membership. This
suggests that industry regulation now plays a key role in differentiating between supplier companies serving a highly competitive market in the UK scaffolding industry.
Audit works The NASC contracting membership has taken note of this development. The requirement to source products from bona fide supplier companies is already reinforced by the confederation at membership audit. Principal contractors and client bodies are also better informed than before about the perils of sourcing product from unregulated suppliers.
The confederation is indebted to Quality Solutions International Ltd for its role in carrying out NASC Code of Practice audits. The audit process has brought about a step change in the hire and sales sector of the industry in a relatively short space of time. Committee representatives are to be congratulated on the part which they continue to play in developing this process.
