not much dust escaped, so clearly this was not too much of a challenge for the Flex. I also tried connecting the vac to a diamond disc cutter and again, the dust collection rate was impressive. It is always recommended that users wear dust masks, but I didn’t notice a dust aura surrounding me when I used the disc cutter. Seeking a bit more of a challenge I connected the Flex to my router table. Usually, with a router, you have to deal with larger shavings and some dust, produced in
significant quantities quite quickly. Again, the Flex’s powerful suction let very little through, and the few shavings that ended on the floor were soon cleared up by manually aiming the nozzle at the leftovers. The next challenge was quite deliberately difficult – cleaning fine dust from the back of the bandsaw and the mitre saw. The trouble with this type of dust is that it is
quite hard to collect from these machines while they are being used, so it soon collects in some depth. The resulting dust can sometimes be compacted and fine and therefore a real danger for users. The Flex’s powerful suction cleared the dust very quickly, in fact so quickly that it compacted the dust in the flexible hose and caused a blockage. This indicated a change of technique for collecting the dust – hold the nozzle at about 25mm distance and let it pull the dust into the tube. While I think that using the filter bag is a good option, the downside is that it fills very quickly and it is a single use bag so it must be disposed of. It is an option to use the vac without a bag, but the substantial filter will soon get “second hand”. However, using the filter-cleaning button does take care of that, and soon returns the vac’s powerful suction. Used in wet mode, the filter has to be removed so the float system can shut off the motor when the tank is full. While I hated doing it (wood dust and water make a horrible gooey cement) the wet mode worked well. With its quiet and powerful motor, strong suction and light-ish weight, I found that this Flex 25 L MC performed well for the range of tasks I subjected it to. As part of the Flex power tool system it is a compact answer to good dust collection.
