system with range of beam output shapes
coherent has announced a new range of diode laser systems, the HighLight D-Series, featuring a range of output beam shapes. the HighLight 8000D, with output
power of 8kW, has 'free space beam delivery', which preserves the inherent brightness of the diode laser source. It enables the use of an optical system with a large (275mm) working distance. the D-Series has output powers
of 2.8kW, 4kW, 6kW and 8kW, all at 975nm. For example, the 6kW and 8kW models are each offered with line beam dimensions of 1mm width and either 6mm, 12mm or 24mm length. Lower power systems

Miniature spectrometer with new triggering options
ocean optics has added more triggering functions to its popular USb2000+ miniature spectrometer to provide accurate timing and synchronisation between the spectrometer and other devices. Four low-jitter trigger modes and normal
(free-running spectral acquisition) operating modes are now possible. Applications include pulsing a light source to occur when acquiring a spectra, and synchronising spectral acquisition to coordinate with samples moving through a process stream. triggering provides precise timing between devices. the USb2000+ can
be triggered so that sending the spectrometer a pulse causes it to do something such as turn a light off or on, activate a pulse in a pulsed light source or start or end spectral acquisition in the spectrometer. For example, in the USb2000+ external triggering mode, an event outside the sampling system (such as a button push, lever activation or laser) electronically pulses the spectrometer’s trigger pin and starts the acquisition of spectra with microsecond accuracy.

have additional beam lengths of 3mm, 4mm, or 5mm. An optional beam shaping accessory can expand the 1mm beam width dimension to 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm or 12mm. the D-Series comes with an air
knife, which protects the laser from back-splattered material, heat and returned laser light. there is also a pyrometer available for monitoring work surface temperatures for closed-loop control of laser power during heat treatment and cladding. the laser system control unit has
a graphical interface and remote diagnostics that allow the product’s performance to be analysed by coherent
service personnel over the internet.

eoPc has introduced a new range of miniature tuning fork choppers with integrated drive electronics, which are suitable for high volume, dedicated application and portable instruments. the low cost choppers fit emerging
trends of building smaller, portable and handheld inexpensive systems. they are used in industrial, scientific, medical and military applications. the product features an integrated
driver, with no wiring and no adjustments required. It features a ttL monitor output (reference signal), low power electronics and an aperture of up to 5mm. It offers one fixed frequency to 3kHz, is small and lightweight. It is able to withstand vibration, and its

rugged design has no wearing parts. the excellent frequency stability of the tuning
fork chopper is due to very high 'Q' of the tuning fork (Q=>5000). this high 'Q' will provide short-term stability in frequency of 1-3 PPM if the temperature is constant. to minimise the temperature
effect on the frequency, the tuning forks are made of a special alloy (constant modulus alloy). this nickel-chromium-titanium-iron alloy has a thermoelastic coefficient
(tec) defined as the algebraic sum of the thermal coefficient of modulus of elasticity and the thermal coefficient of expansion about +/- 10 PPM/0F, which is 15 times better than regular steel.
