LEADER WARREN CLARK

Focus on the UK

October sees the return of Photonex, the UK’s leading photonics exhibition and conference, which this year moves to a new venue at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. Electro Optics is once again proud to be sponsoring the Executive Panel Discussion, which will take place on Wednesday 19 October at 12.30pm. We’ve assembled a panel of experts from Europe and the USA, moderated by our Editor-in-Chief Dr Tom Wilkie, who will discuss what we learned as an industry from the last recession, and whether it puts us in a better position as we face the possibility of another. A full exhibition preview begins on page 28. Elsewhere in this issue, we cover a

market that proved itself to be largely resilient to the downturn – medical applications. Technology is evolving rapidly here, and adoption of photonic techniques is occurring in a whole host of disciplines. Our feature on page 12 looks at some of the current and emerging applications here, ranging from cosmetic procedures to drug delivery and cancer treatments. Finally, I’d like to welcome the newest member of the Electro Optics editorial team, Rob Coppinger, who will take over as editor of the magazine from the next issue. As an experienced journalist and a former engineer, Rob is a very welcome addition to the team, and we look forward to seeing many of you at Photonex.
