IMF

Dimensions: Varies based on requested output Capacity range: 1-6 tons/hour Key attributes: IMF is a world leader in nobake equip-

ment installations. In Operation: Te reclamation equipment is designed

to conform with current safety standards and consists of magnetic valves, manual valves, pressure reducers and flow meters. Te modulating gas supply valve ensures that the gas supply varies as a function of the sand temperature. Te gas/air mixture in the fluid bed is regulated to achieve complete gas combustion and close temperature control. Te destruction of the organic materials released from the sand, is completed in the upper combustion chamber. Te gases are retained here long enough for this to be achieved. Te reclaimed sand has a temperature of around 1,112 to 1,292F (600 to 700C) following firing. It is passed through a fluid bed cooler fitted with a water cooling coil.

Tis removes the excess heat, and the sand leaves the cooler at the right temperature for immediate use in making new molds and cores. Te temperature signals from the fluid bed provide feed-back to a PID “controller.” Tis causes the gas supply valve to be modulated accordingly. Other thermocouples give feedback to control the sand supply rate and control the combustion fumes temperature. Te whole process is PLC operated.

Palmer TSR-Series Termal Sand Reclaimer

Footprint/Dimensions: 4 x 12 x 9 ft. Capacity range: From 6 tons/day to 20 tons/day Key attributes:

• Simple to operate and maintain. • Skid mounted. • Installs in hours. How It Operates:

• All electric using off the shelf components; no com- pressed air or cooling water is needed to bring the discharge sand within 20F of ambient temperature (and plant air compressors do not need to be left on over- night or weekends).

• Affordable price tag; ideal for small and medium-sized metalcasting facilities.

• Precisely heated sand falls into a rotating cooler with ambient air flow that cools the sand to within 25F of ambient while removing a controlled amount of fines.

where it is heated to the desired temperature.

• No cooling water system required. • Larger output and gas fired units available soon.

• Sand is metered into a rotary calciner of unique design, October 2011 MODERN CASTING | 23
