Joe’s Page FLEX BY JOE WEIDER, THE MASTER BLASTER TRAINER OF CHAMPIONS SINCE 1936 THE POWER OF PASSION
IN ALL MY YEARS OF TRAINING, BUSINESS and life in general, there’s one endearing quality that I’ve found in all successful individuals: passion. Brett Favre, one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all-time, loves the game of football so much that he played it into his early 40s before recently retiring. Closer to my heart, bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates and Jay Cutler have personified an innate love of training and the sport of bodybuilding. Coincidence? I think not. Think about the last time you tried to accomplish something that
your heart was not truly into. My guess is that it didn’t produce much. When passion is lacking, so too is the amount of energy and ef fort you’re willing to put into a given endeavour. It’s always a recipe for failure. As a teenager growing up in Canada, I knew where my passion
lay: in building a bigger, stronger, more appealing physique. Later, after my Olympic dreams were halted, I was intent on sharing this love with people around the world. That was my passion, and with hard work and unyielding perseverance, I was able to build the Weider brand and a great life for my family and myself. My advice to you is to find your passion and focus on it. If that
passion is true, no amount of effort or dedication is ever too much or done in vain. If you ignore these forces of nature, all that can come is regret. Passion will never steer you wrong.

The same applies to bodybuilding. If your passion lies in building
a more massive, symmetrical physique, expend all necessary energy to accomplish that goal. If running a marathon in under three hours is your dream, then vigorously pursue that. These are the under- takings that you will find the most productive, and in the end, the most rewarding. No one can tell you what to be passionate about — not society, not even your friends and family. Somewhere inside, you know what drives you. Stick with that. I like to think of success as doing what you love to do and doing
it well. For tunately, you’ ll f ind that the things you are truly passionate about are the things you’re best at. This is why I say passion fuels success. Anything performed with love and a purpose will prevail over something done with melancholy and indifference. And the beautiful thing is, it’s never too late to get on track
with what you love to do. If you’re in your 40s or 50s and think it’s too late to go after your passion, you’re wrong. Heck, I’m 90 and still pursuing new interests! FLEX
