ctober is the month we kick off the International Year of the Cooperatives. This year, cooperatives around the

Choctaw Electric Cooperative (CEC) brought electricity to southeast Oklahoma 72 years ago. The men and women who founded Choctaw Electric ensured a better quality of life for themselves. They built a better world for their own families and future generations to come.


CEC and other cooperatives across the nation and around the world are providing scholarships to help


One of four Americans is a co-op member, however only 12 percent are members of an electric cooperative. But despite the smaller number of actual members per capita, electric cooperative lines cover about 75 percent of the nation. Together we represent 42 million rural Americans.


Electric cooperatives are trying to “Build a Better World” by sending servicemen overseas where, in the past 50 years, cooperatives have provided electricity to 100 million people in 40 countries.


children go to college. Through the Rural Electric Youth Tour, every year electric cooperatives send students to our nation’s capitol to learn about leadership, teamwork and the nation’s ideals.


We are constantly working to find ways to improve service, being innovative in energy efficiency programs and utilizing renewable energy.
