M2X Racing’s Smokin’
Summer MX Series
Round 5, July 24, 2011 AV Motoplex, Lancaster CA
I Shane Emerson won the Lite Novice class
t was all Blake Gardner in the 50cc Open and 50cc 7-8 age class at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park, during round five of the M2X Racing’s Smokin’ Summer Motocross Series, as the KTM rider went four for four in moto wins. Gardner got things started off on the right foot by escaping with the early lead in the 50cc Open first moto, ahead of Dylan Reed, Ricky Negrete and Dylan Rogers. Within a couple of laps Gardner had a ten second cushion on Reed who had his hands full with both Negrete and Rogers. Gardner’s advantage out front continued to grow until the checkers waved. The battle for second place went down to the wire with Reed holding off Rogers at the line. Negrete was a close fourth, over Aidan Ferguson, Scout Swing and Luke Jacobs.
Second moto action saw Gardner with another great start ahead of Rogers and Swing. Gardner stayed out of the reach of Rogers to end up with a perfect two-moto sweep of the class. Rogers’ second place finish in moto two earned him the second place trophy over the 2-3 rides of Reed. Ferguson went 5-4 to edge out the 4-6 of Negrete for fourth overall. Gardner returned on his little orange machine to run away with both motos in the 50cc 7-8 age field. Tristen Mitchell turned a pair of good starts into 2-2 finishes over Ferguson.
Denny Ryan went wire to wire for the opening
50+ Amateur class first moto victory aboard his YZ450F. Ronen Moyal held down second place for the first half of the race before Mike Prather pushed him back to third. A lap later John Marshall would drop Moyal back one more position to fourth where he would eventually finish.
Blake Gardner won both the 50cc Open and 50cc 7-8 age classes
Moyal had his Honda running out front in moto two with Ryan giving chase. Ryan went down on the opening circuit, allowing Prather and Gary Doll to
move up into second and third places respectively. Ryan was quickly back up to speed and overtook Doll for third at the midway point, and did the same to Prather a lap later for the runner-up position. Ryan closed to the back fender of Moyal and with the white flag in sight was able to climb back into the top spot for a perfect 1-1 showing on the day. Moyal’s runner-up effort earned him third in the final standings behind the 2-3 tally of Prather.
85cc Beginner first moto racing saw Honda- mounted Skyler Nicholson out to an immediate lead and he was soon being challenged by Anthony Montante. Montante studied Nicholson’s lines for a lap before moving into the lead and slowly pulling away for the win. Nicholson easily finished in the second spot, ahead of Cole Cereoli. Taylor Giorgio claimed fourth at the checkers over Matt Knight and Jayson Mabry.
Moto two was all Montante, as he made his way to the front of the pack on the opening circuit and was never contested. Cereoli and Nicholson argued over the runner-up position for the first half of the moto until Nicholson dropped out of the race with undisclosed problems. Cereoli collected the second place trophy on his 3-2 performance, over the 4-3 of Giorgio.
William Bojorquez was on fire in the first 85cc 12-13 age moto, taking the victory by a comfortable margin. Noah Chandler gated in second place, where he would end up finishing, ahead of Randy Engelhardt, Jessica Lundin and Travis Blanton. Bojorquez was a no-show at the drop of the gate in moto two due to a fall in another race, which left things wide open for the Honda-mounted Chandler to lead every inch of the race and earn the first place trophy. Engelhardt went 3-2 for second, over the 5-3 of Blanton. Yamaha rider Michael Arellano cleaned up in both Moto X Novice motos. Adam Moore manged to keep Arellano in his sights throughout both races enroute to a pair of second place rides. Steven Magdaleno fought his way up into a 3-3 showing over the 5-4 of Bob Burns.
While Shane Emerson motored away with the Lites Novice class first moto win, Dylan Waters and Willie Hay spent the race fighting over second place with Hay ultimately prevailing in the end. Ernesto Tinoyan crossed the line in fourth over Jake Graham and Jordan Pacheco. Graham holeshot moto two, but by the completion of lap one Emerson was out front and pulling away. Emerson saw the checkers first by a comfortable margin over Hay who was second again. Waters was a close third, followed by Tinoyan and Graham.
