Tyler Moore Moto X Novice class winner By Greg Robertson M Photos by GregRobertsonsRacePhotos.com

ulti-time Utah State Amateur Cham pion, Alexander Beltran, paid a visit to the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park

while visiting the Southern California area, and ended up walking away with the 85cc Open Class overall honors, during round four of M2X Racing’s Smokin’ Summer Motocross Series.

When the gate dropped in opening moto action it was Honda-mounted William Bojorquez with the holeshot, ahead of Beltran, Noah Chandler, Jessica Lundin and Daniel Lundin. A small miscue put Bojorquez on the ground on the first circuit and dropped him back to fourth place. Beltran inherited the top spot with Chandler in control of second place over Daniel Lundin. Beltran didn’t put a wheel wrong and pulled away for the win. Bojorquez worked his way up to challenge Chandler for second place only to encounter problems and record a DNF. Daniel Lundin would end up finishing third, fol- lowed by Cole Cereoli and Jessica Lundin. Bojorquez was off to another great start in moto two with Chandler and Beltran in hot pursuit. Within a circuit of the hard-pack track, Beltran was running out front with Bojorquez camped out on his back fender. Beltran started to put a little ground between himself and Bojorquez up until the midway point when Beltran bobbled and Bojorquez was back out front. It became a sprint to the checkers between the two front-runners with Beltran finding a way back around Bojorquez on the penultimate lap then holding off Bojorquez at the check- ers for the hard-fought victory. Chandler ended up earn- ing the second place trophy on his 2-3 rides over the consistent 4-4 of Cereoli. Tyler Moore grabbed the early lead in the Moto X Novice class first moto and would set the pace out front for most of the race until Michael Arellano reeled him in and dropped him back to second place just before taking the white flag. Arellano went on to take the win, with Moore in second, a safe distance ahead of Willie Hay and Matt Bird.

It was all Moore in moto two, as he shot out of the gate and let everyone else fight over second place. Moore saw the checkers first with a nice lead to claim the overall honors on the day. Arellano fended off the challenges from both Adam Moore and Hay during the moto to finish in second place and second in the final standings over the 3-3 of Hay.

85cc Beginner winner Joshua Clark (501) leading Samantha Lyon (14), Gavin Bowen, (915) and Anthony Montante (423)

National caliber rider Tye Hames made short work of the Moto X Pro class with a pair of convincing wins aboard his Honda. Suzuki-mounted Broc Shoemaker stayed just out of the reach of Cory Conner for a pair of runner-up finishes.

YZ450F-mounted Denny Ryan exited turn one of

the opening 50+ Amateur class moto with the advantage over Rick Hopkins, Gary Doll and John Marshall. Unfortunately for Ryan, he overshot a berm at the end of a fast straight on lap one and found himself back in last place before getting restarted. Hopkins benefited from Ryan’s error and would lead every lap for the win. Ryan put in a great effort to make it all the way back into second place by time the checkers waved. Third went to Doll, followed by Mike Prather, Marshall and John Fullmer.

Moto two was a knockdown-dragout fight over the top spot between Hopkins and Ryan for the entire race. The two seemingly equally skilled riders were insepa- rable with Hopkins eventually prevailing at the finish by mere feet. Doll was again third, over Prather and Marshall.

One of the biggest classes on the day was the 85cc Beginner class, where Joshua Clark put his KX85 into an immediate first moto lead over Gavin Bowen, Anthony Montante, Samantha Lyon and Jordon Erickson. Montante latched on to the back fender of Clark and before long the lead duo were trading the lead back and forth. Montante went down on the last lap, handing Clark the win. Bowen cruised in for second place, ahead of Cereoli, Nolan Colborn and Montante. Clark went wire to wire for the second moto win. Montante couldn’t quite mount the moto-long challenged as seen in the first race, but still finished in second place to wrap up third overall, behind the 3-3 of Cereoli.
