Smokin’ Summer Motocross
ach Bierbower was on fire at round three of the M2X Racing’s Smokin’ Summer Motocross Series, held at the A.V. Motoplex Ride Park. The Yamaha-mounted Bierbower went four for four to capture overall wins in both the 85cc 12-13 age and 85cc Open classes.
85cc 12-13 age class first moto action saw Bierbower win the drag race to the first turn on his YZ85, followed by Brandon Pozas, Noah Chandler and Jarett Magla. Bierbower gapped Pozas by a few seconds on the first circuit and continued to build on his lead with each passing lap for a seemingly easy victory. Pozas finished all by himself in second place, in front of the only real battle on the track, which was for third place between Megla and Chandler, in which Megla would prevail.
Moto two was a Bierbower benefit as he was once again quickest out of the gate and would lead every inch of the race. Megla held down the second spot up until the midway point when Pozas was able to take over the position for good. Megla held on to finish in third, ahead of Chandler, Randy Engelhardt and Jessica Lundin.
Bierbower was off to another great start as the 85cc Open field took to the track for the first time. William Bojorquez had his Honda running a close second, in front of Megla, Chandler and Skylar Nicholson. As the number of laps completed increased, so did Bierbower’s lead over Bojorquez. Bierbower took the win by a safe distance over Bojorquez. Megla kept Chandler at bay for the entire moto for a hard-fought third place finish, with Nicholson rounding out the top five.

Christian Hammer won both the 65cc 9-11 age and 65cc Open classes
Birbower’s fourth and final time out on the track was a wire to wire romp to sew up the 85cc Open class victory with a perfect 1-1 showing. Bojorquez would have to be content with a pair of runner-up finishes. Megla didn’t make the gate for the second moto which gave Chandler an uncontested third place finish over Daniel Lundin, Engelhardt and Taylor Giorgio.
KTM-mounted Christian Hammer continues to be the one to beat in 65cc class racing as of late, as he strung together four straight moto wins to ace both the 65cc Open and 65cc 9-11 age classes. Fellow KTM rider David Dunlap was runner-up to Hammer in all four motos to earn a pair of second place trophies. Michael Lundin made it a KTM sweep of the top three places in Open class racing with 3-3 finishes. Colby Stevens used 3-4 rides to edge out the 5-3 of Lundin for third overall in the 9-11 age field.

Ryan Jones went 2-1 to win the Moto X Novice class
Anthony Montante turned a great start in the opening 85cc Beginner moto into a huge lead by the time the checkers waved. Nicholson got around a fast-starting Tristin Gordon for second place on lap two where he would finish, ahead of Giorgio. Nicholson
exited turn one in moto two with the holeshot, but Montante made short work of the fellow rider and steadily pulled away for the win. Nicholson had no problem holding down second place for the remainder of the moto to go 2-2 on the day, over the 4-3 of Gordon, 3-6 of Giorgio and 5-4 of Samantha Lyon. It wasn’t even close in the 50cc Open ranks, as Brock Bennett simply ran away from his competition in both motos. William Brown and Slade Varola argued over second place in the first moto with Brown pulling away slightly on the white flag lap to get the job done. Brown was again runner-up in moto two, this time staying out of the grasp of Varola in the process. Aidan Ferguson (4-4) rounded out the top four, over Scout Swing (5-5) and Roger Mueller (6-6).
