The eagerly awaited flag dropped at 10:09 a.m. Sunday, June 18, 1967 and the Pacific Southwest Hare Scrambles was underway, with 221 big bike riders running for their mounts Le Mans style. G. Preston #2 and J. Beyers #3, who eventually finished second and third, respectively, are shown at the 44-mile point, bringing their big Triumphs over a rocky hogback, where many riders had to stop — exhausted.
