Kingman is a middle size Arizona town split in two by Interstate 40 but is more known for being part of the historical Route 66. In June, Kingman was treated to the first of what could be many events from the Arizona Short Course Championship race originzation, a division of the Lucas Oil Off-Road regional racing series. Contestants were arriving from Arizona, California and Nevada to participate in the event. The race took place at the Mojave County Fairgrounds. Once hosting bull riding and horse racing, the fairgrounds were opened to automotive sports to help promote more interest in this town.

Friday June 10th was the first practice. The track

Jesse Stone finished fourth Junior Kart 1 in the Main Event followed by 265 Lauren Knupp with a fifth place finish

lay-out had just been finished only hours prior to opening practice. A few laps per class were allowed participants to try out the new track. The next day the competition started with each class getting a hand at the tight turns and jumps. It was found that the course had challenged the most experienced drivers. Then it was time for the main event. Twenty laps of non-stop action, with lots of tire rubbing and bumper grinding to awe the crowd. The 2011 calendar has been set for the ASCC but we cannot wait to see what next year’s schedule holds in store for the community of Kingman. After the ASCC finished racing, the Mojave County Fairgrounds hosted a scrambles race. The contestants drove the same course along as the kid’s trophy truck classes. The scrambles race resembled a demolition race only with more track. Once the contestants came to rest and could not move they were done. Only a few drivers finished the 16 laps
