AMA Southern California Championship MX Series
Senior 40+ A start, #23 Phil Dowell, #111 George Andrew, #102 Kevin Arlotti, and #20 Ed Paulsen
MA Southern California Championship Motocross Series presented by Thumper 4 Stroke Perfor mance commenced under sunny skies and gates full of eager racers. Round one was under the direction of District 37's Rovers M.C. with a mixture of old and new school, from the Vintage classes, to the powerful Sidehacks, to speedsters like Jason Ramsey, the se- ries has it all. Keep yourself hydrated and ready to hammer because it is time to blitz, let's race. Phil Dowell has racing coursing through his veins from his youthful days of riding at New York's former Bridgehampton, to his weekly ritual of practicing on Southern California tracks such as Glen Helen Race- way, he knows his way around the dirt. In moto one of the Senior 40+ A, George Andrews busted the sound barrier with the holeshot. Andrews was tasked with holding off John Burr Cycle's Dowell but soon relented as Dowell took the lead. Kevin Arlotti into second as Andrews drops back to third. Dowell split the chasers and built up a comfortable gap over second place Arlotti and Andrews, retaining that order to the checkers. In moto two we once again had Dowell in front, who was very comfortable on the track explaining to me that the corner set-up was excellent into and out of the cor- ners. This was obvious as he carved the track nicely leading Arlotti and Andrews around the hilly course. The three speed-men finished in the same order in moto with Dowell (1-1) first overall, Arlotti (2-2), and Andrews (3-3) third. Dowell put up his moto dukes in the Vet 30+ A against a feisty Zak Crabb, prevailing Dowell won both motos for his second overall of the day in as many classes. Crabb went 2-2 and Arlotti in the mix as well with a 3-3 as the two racers finished second and third respectively. 250 B's Troy Armstrong was easily the top of his class, but racing with the 250 A group he gave them fits as well. In moto one Armstrong pulled away slightly from 250 A racers Justin Kolanski and Jordan Reynolds. Kolanski and Reynolds were going at it for their class win, clawing at Kolanski for the first three laps Reynolds finally overtook him on lap four. Underclassman Armstrong takes the class and moto one win, Reynolds is second in moto and first in class with Kolanksi never giving up for third and second in class.
In moto two Armstrong put on the torque and nailed the moto lead, but Reynolds and Kolanski were in fero- cious moto warfare once again ripping around and chang- ing spots. Armstrong rolled in for the moto win as Reynolds topped Kolanski for second in moto and Kolanski third in moto. The 250 A winds up with Reynolds (1-1), Kolanski (2-2), and Kris Nelson (3-3) capping the box with a third overall. Armstrong (1-1) wins the 250 B, Tyler Kapko (3- 2) second and Robert Webb (2-3) third overall. Jason Ramsey batted a thousand with overalls in
the HWT A and Open A. Bill Maxim won two classes in the Masters 60+ and Revolution. Zack Teno had a good run in the Open C after his nemesis Austin Meyers had a flat in moto one, Teno went on to win both motos and the overall in the nineteen racer class.
