New Guide To MIG Welding A new Guide to Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding has now been published by Murex Welding Products. MIG is the most widely used of the arc welding processes, being suitable for everything from hobbies and small fabrications or repairs, through to large structures, shipbuilding and robotic welding. MIG can be used on a broad range of materials and thicknesses, and the latest SuperPulse technology enables MIG to give a finish that is similar to that obtained with TIG welding, but with the much faster speeds.
The new guide discusses the principles of the process and gives practical advice on how to carry out MIG welding tasks. Ease of use is a major benefit of MIG in many applications, but speed is also an advantage as it is far quicker to lay down weld metal with MIG than TIG, MMA or gas welding. Typical applications for MIG are discussed in the guide. These include automotive sub-assemblies and bodywork, ranging from conventional MIG for most bodywork, to heavy-duty MIG for lorry chassis and off-highway vehicles as well as lower-current MIG brazing of thin-gauge, high- strength steels. MIG is also used extensively in automotive and general repair workshops. Other non-automotive
applications include the assembly of white goods and office furniture, the joining of structural steelwork for the construction industry, as well as repair work in ship repair yards, and welding tasks in the process industry for pipework and the fabrication of vessels.

Snap-on used the recent Commercial Vehicle Show to announce its major launch into the commercial vehicle market. The first two CV offerings to be introduced, a truck diagnostics tool under the Sun brand and a Sun KoolKare HD vehicle air conditioning recycling centre have been extremely well received by the market. The new Sun commercial smoke meter features a wireless operation with an extensive operating range. It meets and exceeds all current VOSA specifications and has approval for Category A & B, including the RPC test. It uses the same powerful industry standard 7” touch screen tablet PC which permits the storing of customer information and a monochrome laser jet printer for hard copy print out of test results. It comes complete with fast autocal and fast pass software, the smart technology ensuring quick operation every time. The unit has a long life and fast charge battery and its capabilities include an optional wireless RPM and a wireless oil temperature probe. Other optional extras include a stack probe adaptor as well as the ability to upgrade to petrol vehicles.
