CONTRACT NEWS UK original OLYMPIC CHAMPION


A modular electrical wiring system from Apex Wiring Solutions has been specifi ed for the accommodation that will house thousands of participants at next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in London. The multi-million pound contract sees the Durham company supplying pre-wired modular technology for the scheme being built by Bovis Lend Lease, part of the Lend Lease Group, which is overseeing all aspects of the project management and construction. Phase one – the construction of the Athletes’ Village, including homes, shops, hotels, offi ces and community facilities – is fi nished while work on phase two, which involves the development of a further 500,000m2 space, is nearing completion.

A non-armoured system has been installed in the 2,880 apartments and includes fully pluggable distribution boards, pre-wired small power accessories and lighting as well as cable assemblies.

MEETING DEMANDS


Contract Fire Security (CFS) has chosen Causeway’s Vixen software to handle its service and maintenance management demands. The West Midlands based company has also added Causeway’s Telematics to help control fi eld engineering operations. CFS provides a full range of fi re and security solutions, with over 25 years’ experience in both the commercial and residential sectors. The company offers full turnkey solutions from design and installation through to service and maintenance and off site monitoring. With more than 260 employees, CFS looks after 35,000 sites across the UK. CFS has turned to Vixen to enhance its service and maintenance operations. Vixen’s solutions have been specifi cally designed for companies delivering maintenance services to public, commercial and private domestic clients. Vixen’s Service & Maintenance package includes an advanced, but easy to use scheduling application that allows operators to allocate work to teams or individuals quickly and easily and manage workloads for resource planning. CFS has also opted for Vixen’s Telematics mobile


workforce module that allows head offi ce staff to monitor real time job progress through vehicle tracking technology. CFS will go live with Vixen in September this year.


ROCKET REFURBISHMENT


Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has been awarded a contract to refurbish the fi ve storey offi ce block George Stephenson House in York. The 10,000m2


Network Rail. BBES will carry out the design, supply and installation of M&E services for customer ISG Regions, comprising heating, chilled water, ventilation, domestic services, public health, lighting, power, fi re alarms and building management systems.

A series of C-Tec’s sophisticated 24V EN54-4 compliant power supplies control the aspirating system which continuously samples air for the smallest traces of smoke to provide early warning smoke detection in the event of a fi re. Another key component of the cinema’s life safety systems is SigNet’s Integrity voice alarm system which functions as a fully integrated voice alarm, public address and background music system. In an emergency, Integrity will provide a complete people warning system to effectively evacuate the cinema. The paging console is situated in the manager’s offi ce so live announcements can be made as and when required. A C-Tec SigTel disabled refuge system has also been installed on site.
